Keynote Topic: Parenting Children with Special Needs
Keynote Speaker: Esther Devall, Ph.D., CFLE

Department Head of the Family and Consumer Sciences Department and the Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Department in the College of Agriculture, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences at New Mexico State University.
Esther received her master's and Ph.D. in Child and Family Development from the University of Georgia. She taught at Ball State University from 1989 - 1991and then accepted a position at NMSU. She worked her way through the ranks, becoming an associate professor in 1997 and a full professor in 2006. She accepted the role of department head in 2010. In addition to her department head responsibilities, Esther chairs the Department Head Academy at NMSU which provides training, professional development, and support to department heads.

Presenter: Carli Romero

Carli Romero is the Regional Director for Shakti Rising in New Mexico. She founded the NM Chapter of Shakti Rising, following immigration and civic engagement work as a community organizer for Comunidades en Accion y de Fe. She is currently pursuing body work certification in Ortho-Bionomy and Health Touch. Her current work includes stress-management presence training for local educators and service providers in the public and non-profit sectors of New Mexico from a women-centered and trauma-informed lens.
Topic: Love and Learn! Promoting the Importance of Healthy Happy Babies
Presenter: Ruth Ortiz, MSW

Ruth has been a social worker since 2005, working with prenatal and pediatric clientele at Ben Archer Health Clinic. She began working with children ages birth to three providing education and performing assessments to assur children were meeting their developmental milestones. Ruth continued to work with pregnant women and children at La Clinica de Familia where she became the social work, health educators, and promotoras supervisor. She then moved to Early Head Start as a Home Based Service Coordinator also working with children ages birth to three and also promoting Infant Mental Health. and Mental Health Observations in the classroom. Ruth the became the Program Coordinator for Aprendamos Intervention Team working with children who have developmental delays or who are at risk of developmental delays. Her current role with Aprendamos has shifted to Family Service Coordinator working mainly with Social Workers, Family Therapist, and Infant Mental Health Clinicians. Ruth is currently apart of thee Infant Mental Health teams through out New Mexico and serves on the Board of Directors for the New Mexico Association for Infant Mental Health.
Topic: Integrated Behavioral Health Care: Principles of Incorporation
Presenter: Daubney M. Harper, Ph.D.

Dr. Harper’s research interests include Integrated Primary Care, building sustainability for Behavioral Health Care, enhancing inter-professional training and utilization of integrated care teams, and focusing on behavioral change for better patient health outcomes.
Dr. Harper is a psychologist in integrated primary care. She works at La Clinica de Familia, a FQHC in southern New Mexico, and works with providers at the Southern New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program to promote collaboration and interdisciplinary training. She provides training and supervision in Behavioral Health to Master’s and Doctoral students in the Counseling & Educational Psychology programs for La Clinica, Family Medicine Center, and Student-Based Health Centers in southern New Mexico.
Topic: The ABC's of Communication Between Parents and Providers
Presenter: Sara Sell, RN, BSN

Sara graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing and obtained her RN license. While living in Nebraska and Kansas she held the position of Medical Marketing Associate, OR Circulating, and Recovery Nurse. Currently she is a court appointed visitor for adult guardianship and conservatorship cases in Doña Ana District Court, and community health nurse for Direct Therapy Services and a community health nurse for Aprendamos. Sara is a certified American Heart Association BLS Instructor. Sara has also published articles in Living Well Digest and has a Nurse's Corner on the Aprendamos Website. Currently she is working on establishing a Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Program in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Sara has lived in Las Cruces since 2005 with her husband, David and two sons, Jacob and Matthew. You can find her attending their sporting events and she has two dogs Zoe and Faith.
