Las Cruces, New Mexico – APRENDAMOS and Covarrubias Family Fund invite eligible applicants to apply for the second cohort of the Advancing Social Equity Initiative – Fellowship (ASEI Fellowship). Two non-profit organizations will be awarded, and their participants will become fellows working towards building equity or equitable practices within their organization and community.

The Advancing Social Equity Initiative invites applications for the support of organizational capacity building resulting in impactful work and engagements that advance racial and social justice in Southern New Mexico.

The Advancing Social Equity Initiative’s goals are to build the capacity of emerging nonprofits in Southern New Mexico to align with evidence-informed equity models. This initiative fellowship aims to model and ground equity in the fabric of local nonprofits, thereby increasing well-being among staff and constituents with exponential impact in the community. This model may serve as inspiration for other area human service organizations to build collaborative power to ground equitable well-being efforts in the region.

The inaugural ASEI Fellowship Cohort was made up of participant from Jardin de Los Ninos, NM CAFé, and APRENDAMOS. Fellows spent several months learning about how equity, inclusion, and social justice impact our community. Fellows participated in training sessions with Christine Robinson who is a seasoned thought leader with expertise in nonprofit and public sector systems, generative networks, and systems across the United States.

Robinson prioritizes intersectional equity in all her work. Intersectionality examines power dynamics, transcends communities, practices, and realms of society, and is grounded in application and practice. Intersectional equity goes a step further by recognizing and valuing each person’s multiple identities. Equity can be exhibited through an open invitation to participate, unbiased access, co-creation with those directly affected in building strategies and programs, and the infrastructure of institutions, systems, and communities.

“It was a great experience that educated me about equity, equality, resources, and much more support that can mentally assist me for career, educational, and personal growth.” – Lynette Rubio

“Participating in the ASEI gave us the opportunity to expand our knowledge and engage in critical thinking and deep reflection of ways we can advance social equity and better our community. It also allowed us to form connections and create a supportive environment for each person to grow as a person.”  – Diana O’Brien

Cohort Two will have the opportunity to work with a different mentor, who will be announced at a later date.

Two nonprofit organizations will be awarded. Each will receive $5000 along with extensive training and learning opportunities with APRENDAMOS and Ivy Child International. The Advancing Social Equity Initiative- Fellowship, Opens July 5th, 2022 – Closes August 5th, 2022
