The Aprendamos Family of Services Cariño Family Health & Wellness Programs team is thrilled to begin a new era of support through our Asociación Enfermera-Familia (NFP) — the first of its kind in Southern New Mexico.
NFP is an evidence-based home visiting program that matches first-time mothers with specially trained registered nurses who offer guidance, encouragement, and a strong foundation for building brighter futures for both moms and babies.
Asociación Enfermera-Familia (NFP) has been proven to:
- Improve maternal and child health outcomes
- Strengthen family support systems
- Increase school readiness
- Reduce child abuse and neglect
Families are connected with a nurse who provides specialized support starting in early pregnancy through their child’s second birthday. “We are eager to begin connecting families to nurses who are specially educated and equipped to meet their needs,” said Cariño Director of Early Childhood Development Health Systems, Cristin Weldon, RN, BSN, CCM. “When resources and support are provided in the most critical stages of a child’s life, we see improved long-term impacts on family and child health.”
The Nurse-Family Partnership will initially serve families in Doña Ana and Otero counties, working to empower parents, strengthen communities, and eliminate barriers so that children have the opportunity to thrive.
This program is offered in addition to our other home visiting services, ensuring that every family can find the right level of support — whether or not they meet NFP’s specific eligibility criteria.
