Frequently Asked Questions

We know starting autism therapy can bring up questions, and we’re here to help you feel confident every step of the way. Below you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about our services, therapy approaches, and how we support children and young adults at Mariposa Autism Service Center.

What ages do you serve at Mariposa?

We serve children and young adults from ages 2 through 21. Early childhood is a common start age for ABA therapy, and we continue services through adolescence as needed. Our specialized team can work with toddlers, school-age kids, teens and young adults. Each of our programs are individualized to the client’s developmental level.

Yes, we offer Skills-Based Treatment (SBT), which is a newer therapy approach for autism focusing on improving specific skills and managing challenging behaviors through positive reinforcement. SBT is embedded into all behavior plans and focuses on the child’s consent, allowing them to lead the sessions. It’s especially helpful for individuals who require more compassion and patience.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is an evidence-based approach that helps children with autism develop important life skills by reinforcing positive behaviors. At MASC, therapy is child-led and play-based, meaning sessions are designed to be engaging and motivating. Over time, ABA can help increase independence and reduce challenging behaviors at home, school, and in the community.
